Panaji (GOA): The State Government on Thursday announced Dry-Day in 186 village panchayats going for polls on June 11 and on June 13– the counting day.
In view of polling and counting, Government has notified that no liquor will be transported from one place to another within the State during those days.
“Government has directed that all licensed premises for the sale of liquor and consumption of liquor in public places located within the Panchayat areas where the election for Village Panchayats are being conducted, will be closed from June 10, 2017 till midnight and within the State of Goa from 12.00 a.m. on June 11, 2017 till midnight and on June 13, 2017 from 8.00 a.m. till midnight, in view of polling and counting of votes,” the notification issued by the Excise Commissioner Menino D’Souza reads
The Department has said that the licensed premises having licence for Bar and Restaurant can keep the restaurant open for serving food only and the Bar counter will be closed and no liquor will be allowed to be served during those two days. “The owner of the licensed premises having Bar and Restaurant should also display a board in the premises, stating that no liquor will be served and that only the restaurant is open for serving food,” D’Souza said.
He further said that three quart bottles of Indian made foreign liquor or foreign liquor other than beer and six bottles of beer of 650 ml will be the maximum quantity of liquor which can be possessed by any person within the State without permit issued in accordance with the provisions of the Goa Excise Duty Act during the ban days.
