Around one-and-half month after it failed to grab the opportunity to form government in Goa, Congress party has admitted its mistake of “not having pre-poll alliance with Goa Forward headed by Vijai Sardesai.”
“Our mistake was not to go for a pre poll alliance with Goa Forwarded headed by Vijay (Vijai) Sardesai which was seen to be anti Parrikar and BJP,” Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh, who was party’s incharge of the State, has said in his series of tweets. The tweets were released on Friday.
Singh, whose tweets are apparently reacting to the media report that Goa happening proves that India is becoming Congress-mukt, has made this admission for the first time that not having pre-poll alliance with Goa Forward Party was their mistake.
The Congress leader in his tweet has termed “totally biased” the view of the media that the party took time to decide their leader after it won on the majority seats in Goa elections whose results were announced on March 11.
“Totally biased and wrong on facts. Congress didn’t take more than few hours to decide CLP Leader and Rahul ji had given free hand,” he tweeted further.
Talking about the events that were unfolded after results were out, Singh has said “But at the last moment Vijay (Vijai) Sardesai joined hands with Parrikar and Gadkari ditching his mentors who wanted him to ally with Congress.”
Singh also said that there was a trust deficit between Sardesai and State Congress leadership. “But I don’t blame Vijay (Vijai) Sardesai entirely because there was a Trust deficit between him and Congress State leadership.”
“It is only BJP and (Manohar) Parrikar to be blamed to have stolen the mandate of the People of Goa,” the Congress leader tweeted.
“And Governor who violated the Sarkaria Commission guideline & (and) Supreme Court decisions of inviting single largest Party in fractured mandate,” he added.
“Let’s see how long Parrikar can fool the People of Goa for his personal greed and ambition,” Singh has commented.
When contacted, Sardesai said that it is “too little, too late.” “It is too little, too late. It is the High Command of the party which is admitting while local leadership is still talking too much,” he said.
The minister in Parrikar cabinet said “there are some elements in the Congress who have antogonised people (in the past) who were coming to Congress party.” “Those elements are still existing in Congress and are very much active.”
Welcoming Singh’s tweets, Sardesai pointed out that at local level (in Congress party) there are no corrective steps taken to avoid such mistakes in future. “I am not bothered what Congress says or does. Right now we are in Fast Forward mode,” said the minister, talking about Manohar Parrikar-led alliance.
He said that there was a ‘trust deficit’ between him and Congress leaders because state leadership (of congress) treated him (sardesai) like a dirt before the elections.
After the Goa election results, Congress emerged as the largest party winning 17 seats while BJP was restricted to 13. But BJP with the help of Goa Forward Party, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Independents managed to cobble an alliance and formed the government under leadership of Parrikar.
