Panaji (Goa): With pre monsoon showers hitting the state, the North Goa District Administration has imposed ban on all types of digging and cutting of roads by any agency including government, from June 1.
Until May 30, the government as well as private agencies were involved in digging and cutting of roads for widening, maintenance, etc.
The North Goa Collectorate has said that no such activities shall be carried out without prior written permission from them.
“In view of digging and cutting of all types of roads, including national highways, state highways, major district roads, road shoulders, Ianes, thoroughfares etc during the monsoons, as these activities pose imminent danger and disruption to the life of motorists, pedestrians and general public. The District Magistrate, North Goa has ordered that no person/persons or agency/organisation/body shall dig/cut the road or shoulders of the roads, any lane or access in any manner whatsoever without prior written permission from them within their jurisdiction,” the order stated.
DM has also ordered that the provisions of the Section144 of the Cr. P.C. 1973 promulgated came into force from June 1 and shall remain in force till August 31.
Any person/ agency contravening this order will be punished under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
