Panaji (Goa): Raising serious concerns about possible misuse of power during the upcoming Panjim by-elections, the Congress party wants Manohar Parrikar to go for polls as BJP candidate and not as Chief Minister of Goa.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Girish Chodankar demanded that in order to have a level playing field during the coming by-polls, Parrikar should step down as Chief Minister and go to people only as BJP candidate.
“Parrikar going for polls being Chief Minister of Goa will not give a level playing field. There is every possibility that he would misuse his office to influence the voters. He has already done it by announcing his candidature sitting in Ministerial block on Thursday afternoon,” Chodankar said.
“Hence, we demand that Parrikar should set up down as Chief Minister and go for polls as BJP candidate,” he added.
AICC leader said that Parrikar can hand over the charge to some other Ministers till the time elections are held.
Chief Minister on Thursday announced his candidature from Panjim for by-polls, which are slated to take place within next four months.
Congress is most likely to field its rebel former MLA Atansion ‘Babush’ Monserrate against Parrikar. Monserrate lost last election against BJP’s Siddharat Kuncolienkar from Panjim by just 1000 votes
