Panaji (Goa)  Minister for Agriculture Vijay Sardessai today supported his Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s view that public statements by elected representatives on the police-drug nexus can lead to dampening moral of State police.

“We as legislators and more as ministers has certain responsibilities to factually and in concrete terms support our statement with proofs,” Sardessai said when asked whether the CMs warning was indirectly posed towards his party MLA and Minister Vinod Palyekar, who has been very vocal in the recent past against the police-drug nexus.

“Even if it is hinting at my Minister, I have no problem about it,” Sardessai, leader of Goa Forward Party, commented.

Sardessai said that issue of drugs is quite glamorous and sensational but that is not politics, especially not governance.

He said that the BJP-led coalition Government is trying to adopt various measures to actually break the drug trade in the state.

“While doing that we cannot ridicule our police force now and then. Although I am not trying to back the police fully on the drug thing as there have been cases of nexus,” he stated.

Minister said that there are certain lobbies out of the state who are keen to ridicule and malign Goa and that elected representative cannot be knowingly or unknowingly helping them in process.

Chief Minister in a letter to all MLAs earlier this week directed to desist from making statements which are demoralizing the police force. He has asked his MLAs to submit the proof if they have in regard to police-drug nexus.
