Panaji (Goa) Social activist  Aires Rodrigues has today stated that to uphold the rule of law and freedom of expression in the State he would move the High Court seeking the quashing of that F.I.R which has been very high-handedly registered at the Ponda Police Station on the eve of Diwali against the critically ailing former Deputy Speaker of Goa Vishnu Surya Wagh.

Adv. Rodrigues has stated that as an officer of the Court he would be failing in his duty if he remains a mere spectator to this gross travesty of law in allowing this baseless and unfounded F.I.R go unchallenged including the locus of the complainant. 

Pointing out that Vishnu Wagh has also been a dear friend for over four decades, Adv. Rodrigues has stated that it was his duty to rise to the occasion especially in view of the fact that Vishnu Wagh for over a year is now bedridden in almost a vegetative condition and unable to even communicate. 

Stating that something penned by Vishnu Wagh over four years years ago as part of his literary writings has now been needlessly and malfiedly raked up, Adv. Rodrigues has stated that he suspects a hidden hand of the BJP in this bid to malign and sully the name of Vishnu Wagh who has been a multi-lingual poet, writer, dramatist, journalist and artist par excellence.  

Recalling that the Sudirsukt – Hymns of a Shudra was launched at the hands of Manohar Parrikar at the Kala Academy, the state’s official seat of culture, Adv Rodrigues has stated that the anthology of 61 poems written by Vishnu Wagh has to be read as a whole and certain verses cannot be selectively read out of context. 

Stating that the very outspoken Vishnu Wagh had always been openly critical of the caste-oriented social order and right-wing politics, Adv. Rodrigues has stated that his literature reflected and espoused this contour of thought.

Questioning the motives of the police in recklessly and in a draconian act registering the F.I.R without any application of mind, Adv. Rodrigues has stated that in cases where real crimes are committed especially by ruling politicians the police citing lame excuses selectively choose to look the other way. 

Adv. Rodrigues has further stated that investigating of this speculative F.I.R against Vishnu Wagh would be a sheer waste of police manpower and taxpayer’s money which cannot be allowed.
