Panaji (GOA) Hours after Leader of opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar was booked in the disproportionate assets case, Congress party termed the move as politically motivated and malicious with ulterior motive.
Speaking to media persons, Congress President Shantaram Naik said that the FIR against Kavlekar and the raids carried out at his premises are politically motivated and malicious.
He charged that the move is with ulterior motive of compelling Congress MLAs to join BJP-led coalition government.
“The background of the formation of the present BJP led coalition government makes congress party to suspect there is some ulterior motive behind the raids that are conducted,” Naik said.
Party president assured that Kavlekar will fully cooperate with the investigation.
When contacted, Kavlekar said that he will provide all the cooperation in the case. “I am at Dharwad, but has told my wife to provide all cooperation to the investigating agencies,” he said.
Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), which has registered FIR against Kavlekar, is likely to go for his custodial interrogation, if the leader fails to satisfy them with his justification.
