Panaji (Goa) The State Government has received the first installment of Rs 8.5crore towards setting up of Regional Cancer Centre at Bambolim.
State had signed memorandum of understanding with the Union Health Ministry for setting up of the facility.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane today said Union Health Ministry has released the first installment of Rs 8.5cr to State towards regional cancer centre.
“The project is to be constructed on 60:40 ratio. The total cost of the project is Rs 45-50 crore,” Minister said.
The cost will include Rs 10-12 crores will be spent on construction of building and another Rs seven crores on civic works, all to be funded by State, he added.
Rs 40 crores will be spent on equipments.
“Cancer is one of the most galloping diseases in the state of Goa. People are forced to travel to Bombay for treatment. Hence we want to provide the service within the State,” Rane said.
Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) is the nodal agency for implementing the project. “The project will be complete within 12 months from the date of commencement of construction work,” he said.
Minister announced that the foundation stone for the Centre would be laid along with the Super Specialty Block proposed at Bambolim in the hands of Union Minister for Health Jagat Prakash Nadda.
