Pune: Film and Television Institute of India implemented the new ‘Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) Syllabus’ from 2016 batch. As part of the system, in the 2nd Semester, the students can choose two subjects from the pool of 14 different subjects offered by all the departments of the Film Wing. This choice of two subjects is done through two weeks of ‘Elective Module’ which is presently underway in the 2nd Semester.
For the first time in the history of FTII, the Elective Module has been implemented. It offers an opportunity to the students to choose a subject as per choice other than his/her specialization. Since the number of seats for each course is limited to 12 seats only, an online program developed by the Institute helped the students to submit their choice of the subjects. The subjects offered to the students were on the basis of first- come-first-serve.
The Elective Module began on 12th June 2017 and will end on 23rd June 2017. The 2nd Semester will end with ‘Elective Module’ and 3rd Semester will begin on 7th August 2017. The 1st Semester of ‘2016 Batch’ had started on 1st August 2016.
“The enthusiastic response to the bouquet of electives was along expected lines. After all, a film student needs to understand all aspects of filmmaking, and not just about the specialization. So, a sound designer can study screenplay and a screenwriter can study editing. “, says Bhupendra Kainthola, Director FTII Pune on the successful implementation of the elective module.
