SATTARI
A 22-year-old girl, Pujan Melekar, was gored to death by a gaur (bison) at Xel-Dhada village in Sattari today morning.
The girl was immediately rushed to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) but she succumbed to her injuries on the way.
The victim was travelling towards the office along with her younger brother on a two-wheeler when the animal suddenly appeared and dashed them. The brother luckily escaped but Pujan was gored to death by the gaur.
Health minister Vishwajit Rane who visited GMCH this morning said that he had asked Forest department officials to tranquilise the heard of Bisons and relocate them, which are moving around Guleli panchayat area.
“The death is due to sheer negligence of the forest department officials who were informed about the heard going around the village. They were also asked to tranquilise the heard and relocate them inside the forest. But they did not bother,” Rane said. Rane also said that if Goa Forest Dept is not capable of handling this situation then they should coordinate and take assistance from Forest Dept officials of Karnataka or Maharashtra and handle this situation.
Recently an elderly lady was also killed in Sattari by a gaur when she had gone to work in her farm.
