The Goa Basketball Association will be organising a Basketball Coaches Certification Programme, in accordance with the syllabus of World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC) Introductory level, to promote systematic and organized grass root basketball training in the state. The Coaches will receive an official GBA certificate on completion of the 5-week course, which will include written and practical evaluation. Those who complete the requirements of the course, will be eligible to attend the WABC level one certification when organized in India.
It’s already three years since the new syllabus of WABC as recognized by FIBA is in vogue, making it mandatory for all coaches to be certified under the new system. The main intent of the course was to assist the coaches into qualifying themselves while they conduct their regular coaching at their respective centres. GBA has taken note that there have arisen numerous coaching centres and hence felt the need to standardize the training programs in these centres getting the coaches qualified as per the FIBA and WABC Guidelines. The course will focus on the different aspects of coaching, and will soon be conducted as a module for new and interested coaches to qualify and initiate new centres.
The coaching programme will be conducted by Coach. Arnika Patel, former Indian Player and presently qualified in FIBA-BFI level 3 as well as WABC level 2 under FIBA Instructor, Coach Nelson Isley. Also Fr. Ralin De Souza, Secretary GBA and completed his FIBA-BFI Level 3 as well as WABC Level 2, along with Michael Dias, qualified WABC level 1, and Director of Sports, Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Bambolim.
This coaching Program will give the basic skills to the coaches who are serious in the coaching program and will also have a mentor-program where the coaches can avail of constant resources from GBA or AOA Basketball Academy.
