Mumbai: It was a win-win situation for Goa when Health minister Vishwajit Rane met Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadanavis in Mumbai over the issue of charging patients at Goa medical college and hospital.
Rane said that Maharashtra government has agreed to empanel Goa medical college and hospital and North Goa district hospital as a part of their Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Aarogya Yojna (MJPJAY), the state run medical insurance scheme.
Goa government has began charging the non-Goan patients who are taking treatment at state run facilities to off-load the stress on these hospitals from this year onwards. State data has revealed that 30 per cent of the patients being treated at Goa government run hospitals are from outside the State.
“I met Mahrashtra chief minister Devendra Fadanavis on the issue regarding charging the patients at goa medical college and hospital,” Rane said.
He said that Maharashtra chief minister has directed his officials to empanel Goa medical college and North District hospital as a part of MJPJAY scheme and set up the counters at these facilities so that the patients coming from the neighbouring state (Maharashtra) can avail treatment under this scheme.
“The patients from Maharashtra can swipe the card and get the benefit at our facilities. Gmc will also earn revenue from that as the rates under MJPJAY at higher,” Rane said.
He said that the facility for the patients from Maharashtra would be set up within seven days from today.
