Two days after a clash between locals and narcotics raiding team at a shack, an officer has identified some assailants including suspected drug peddlers.
Complainant Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Goa Superintendent Jitendra Ranjan has deposed before the local police giving names of some attackers including shack owner and suspected drug traffickers who were a part of the unruly mob.
“Some names have been given to us who assaulted the NCB sleuths during the drug raid at Om Star shack. Among these also include suspected drug peddlers against whom a crackdown was planned. Not all have been identified. The investigation team will try to identify all as the probe moves ahead…” said a police officer.
SP Ranjan had filed a complaint against the mob for assaulting him during a drug raid at the shack. The NCB team had received a tip-off that a gang from Himachal Pradesh would arrive at the place with drug consignment at the location. But they escaped after triggering the fight but have been identified in the deposition copy by the officer to the police.
The police have also launched a search operation for the alleged drug peddlers.
The Pernem police are also investigating a counter-complaint filed by the shack operator alleging assault by the NCB sleuths and hiding their identity leading to misunderstanding.
Meanwhile, Goa police have launched an inquiry against the staff at Mapusa police station for joining the NCB in the raid without obtaining prior permission from higher-ups. DGP Muktesh Chander has warned of disciplinary action if they are found violating the procedure.
