Calangute (Goa) Mumbai-based couple was arrested today by Calangute police for duping a caretaker lady who ran the guest house owned by actress Meghna Naidu.
Calangute Police arrested a couple – Princeraj Chaviraj (32) and his wife Sharmila Dalal (31) for duping the manager of the house owned by the actress in Candolim located in North Goa.
“The couple was on the run from the time they had burgled the House and they were finally traced in South Goa,” Calangute Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi told reporters here today.
The actress in her social media post a fortnight back had claimed that the duo had duped the caretaker of her guest house and had ran away with her belongings including clothes. She had released the picture of the couple through her social media account.
The formal complaint against duo was registered with Calangute police by Suhasini Raut on February 26 who is a caretaker of the guest house owned by the actress, Dalvi said adding that the manhunt was launched based on the pictures provided by the complainant.
She had complained that the couple had duped the guest house caretaker to the tune of Rs 60,000 on the pretext of providing jobs to her children and also took money from time to time under different excuse. Raut said that total Rs 1.5 lakh was taken by the couple during their stay at the guest house.
The case was registered under section 420 read with 34 of Indian Penal Code (Cheating).
Dalvi said that the couple was on the run but was traced in South Goa on March 13 in the morning. “Police team arrested the couple from a hotel at Majorda in South Goa,” he said.
Both were produced before local court which has remanded them for four days of police custody. “We are also investigating whether they are involved in similar offences at other places,” Dalvi said.
