Congress party in Goa today opposed diversion of Mhadei river water to Malaprabha basin proposed by Karnataka State, which is also ruled by Congress government.

Addressing press conference, Congress senior leader Adv Ramankant Khalap has asked the people of Goa as well as political leaders, cutting across party line, to stand united in the battle against diversion of water.

“Be it BJP’s Yedurappa or Congress Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, they have no right to divert the water from Mhadei basin to Malaprabha basin. We will not allow this to happen,” Khalap said.

“There will be no compromise on this issue even at party level,” he added.
