In its series of workshops across the State, Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) has raised concern on corporal punishment and physical-cyber bullying of children in many schools.
The GSCPCR as a part of its implementation and monitoring of RTE has thus started workshops in 12 talukas of Goa covering Right To Education, corporal punishment and bullying of students, which is open for primary teachers of government and aided schools.
“Corporal punishment in schools is a major issue till date. Children are future of our nation and needs supervision and discipline in their school curriculum. The environment should be friendly and nurturing to the needs of the child. Teachers play a very important role as a second parent during school hours. Positive discipline and fearless approach for students is very important. Bullying is also important part in schooling. Many children are targets of bullying in school. Cyber bullying is also taken a large toll. It is not only physical abuse but emotional and psychological abuse of students in school needs to be addressed,” reads a press statement issued by the commission.
Corporal punishment and laws related to children for PTA of primary schools in both the districts was already conducted in the past. Corporal punishment workshop for headmasters of all schools across Goa was also held.
The workshop started on January 22, 2018 with the first workshop at Sattari while second workshop was held at Ponda. The workshop will continue till February 23, 2018.
