“We have decided to block the access to the jetty. I am issuing an order today to the Captain of Ports to ensure it is blocked, as well as Traffic Department to ensure there is not vehicular chaos there,” she told TNV after a high level meeting with the respective agencies. The order, she maintained will not affect the ongoing water sports activities. 

Imagine Panaji had cited a 2015 report of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation that indicated the health of structure was deteriorating. However, no action was taken thereafter until Imagine Panaji took up the task. “Public safety is our top priority. We had approached the government citing the poor condition of Dona Paula, and that many locals and tourist visiting here are at risk. We suggested closing the jetty which government agreed,” CEO Swayam Chaudhary said. 

It is however not clear whether the structure will be completely demolished or undergo patch up repairs. Chaudhary said a decision will be taken after taking on board expertise for the purpose and assured to built a ‘world class jetty’ within the next one and half year. 

Located on the beautiful and famous sea stretch that spans from Panaji, Miramar and Dona Paula, the jetty is frequented by tourists all round the year. During the tourist season, it transforms into a crowded stretch. A number of movies have been shot here. 

The idyllic rocky tourist attraction lies at the spot where the Mandovi and the Zuari rivers meet and confluences with the Arabian Sea at a distance of 1 km from this point.
