Panaji (Goa) Several right wing organizations in Goa today petitioned organizers of IFFI against the possible screening of the movie ‘S Durga’ during the ongoing festival.

The petition which was handed over to Sunit Tandon, Director of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) this afternoon has said that the screening of the controversial movie should be stalled to prevent law and order situation.

The IFFI would be culminating on November 28 in presence of Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.

“It is clear that the film has targeted the Hindu Goddess Durga and denigraded her and in the process hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. So also the film is likely to create law and order situation,” the petition which is signed by various organizations including members of Sanatan Sanstha and Gomantak Mandir Mahasangh reads.

The Kerala High Court has given a go ahead for the screening of the film during ongoing IFFI, while the festival organizers have asked the filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan to submit censored version of the flick.

“The court may have given the direction to show this film. We respect the court but you can’t ignore the sentiments of crores of Hindus who worship Goddess Durga,” the petition reads.

Equating the controversy on lines with the movie ‘Padmavati,’ the petition said “currently issues are going on regarding the Padmavati film. So showing this film at IFFI will add to the controversies. Though there is freedom of Art but it can’t be at the cost of hurting of feelings of majority community.”
