Panaji (Goa): After almost five years of delay, the State Government has finally constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the 2013 House committee report on politician-police-drug mafia nexus.

Police sources confirmed formation of SIT following approval from Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

The eight members SIT will function under the supervision of the crime branch of the Goa Police, will be headed by DySP Edwin Colaco.

Former Nuvem MLA Francisco ‘Micky’ Pacheco headed House Committee had drafted the report indicating former home minister Ravi Naik, his son Roy, and several police officers from the rank of DGP to constable, in a police-drug mafia nexus.

The report was submitted to the State Assembly in October 2013. However, the same was not accepted as the two members of the committee, did not agree with the findings and hence had not signed the report.
