The patients from Maharashtra who are enrolled under their state government’s medical insurance scheme would be able to take free treatment at Goa medical college and Hospital, near here.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane today opened a facilitation centre for the patients at Goa Medical College and Hospital who are enrolled under Mahatma Jyotibha Phule Jan Aarogya Yojna (MJPJAY), an initiative of Maharashtra government.

“The Maharashtra government will reimburse the amount to GMC after their patients are treated here. Goa will not be at the loss as the rates offered under MJPJY are quiet good,” Rane told reporters after inaugurating the centre this morning.

Rane had recently met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanavis to discuss the issue after GMC had stopped providing free medical treatment to the patients who are not from Goa.

He said that the current arrangement will help the patients specially from Sindhudurg area, who arrive here for the treatment.
