GOA: FTII’S FIRST-EVER DIGITAL FILM PRODUCTION  COURSE BEGINS IN SRINAGAR IN PARTNERSHIP WITH J&K GOVT.

Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune and Govt. of Jammu & Kashmir have come together to organise a Foundation Course in Digital Film Production in Kashmir Valley. 
 
The course was inaugurated in Srinagar today by Muneer-ul-Islam, Director, Dept. of  Information and PR , Govt of Jammu & Kashmir and Bhupendra Kainthola, Director, FTII Pune in the presence of Jayashree Kanal, Course Director, A S Kanal, Asst Course Director and Prof. Sandeep Shahare, National Coordinator, SKIFT, FTII Pune. 
 
The 15  participants–including 2 women– aged 19-41 hail from Srinagar, Budgam and Kargil. Among them are a reporter, photographer, TV Producer, editor and students holding qualifications such as Diploma, UG, Graduate and PG.
 
“Digital Film Production is the newest addition to FTII’s bouquet of short courses being conducted across the country under its new and increasingly popular outreach initiative SKIFT (Skilling India in Film and Television). During the Film Appreciation course conducted by FTII in Srinagar last July–the first ever in Kashmir Valley–it emerged very clearly that in talent, perception and understanding Kashmiri youth are no less than their counterparts in the rest of the country. Such skill-oriented film courses will empower them with cinematic expression, enabling them with techniques and style to tell their stories” , said Bhupendra Kainthola, Director, FTII in his inaugural address.
 
The course structure is designed into five different modules.The first four moudules will introduce the participants to aspects like the language of cinema, screen writing, production techniques for fiction and non-fiction etc. The fifth module is a project where participants will explore all their learning to make short films either in groups or individually. The 30-day course will end on 25th April 2018.   
 
Jayashree Kanal, Course Director says, “The objective of this course is to expose the participants to the process of digital film production through discussions and practical. Participants will write stories, develop scripts and shoot exercises. While shooting, they will take roles of Producer, Director, Asst. Director, Camera person, Sound person and Editor by turns.”
 
Jayashree Kanal is a former head of TV Direction at FTII. A combination of syllabus designer and independent film maker, she brings with her over 40 years experience as writer and  director for feature films, short films and TV programs. She has conducted 26 short courses in Digital Film Production so far. Jayashree Kanal has served on the jury of the prestigious National Film Awards, Indian Panorama, as well as other competitions.
 
A S Kanal, Asst Course Director is FTII alumnus (Cinematography,1972) and a Fulbright  Scholar who has taught cinematography and TV  production at FTII. He has shot a number of feature films, short films, ad films and documentaries. Since 1995, Sh Kanal has conducted short courses in Digital  Cinematography (50 till date), Digital Film Production (26 nos ) and Editing (17 nos). For FTII he has conducted Foundation Course in Digital Cinematography in Delhi, Mumbai and Leh (Ladakh). He has been Jury Member for National Film  Awards, Indian Panorama and other film festivals.
