GOA: GCCI CUP TABLE TENNIS – FIGHTING STARS EMERGE CHAMPS

Fighting Stars dethroned Electrotech to emerge champions of the GCCI Cup 2017 Table Tennis Team championship event, an initiative of the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with Panjim Table Tennis Club and the Sports Authority of Goa, played at Indoor stadium, Campal. Electrotech having in their ranks Goa’s top paddler Wesley Do Rosario were hugely favoured to retain their title but succumbed to an upset 2-3 defeat at the hands of the young Fighting Stars team, comprising mainly of cadet and sub junior players.  Nilay Kamat and Taniya Patil starred for the winners, winning 2 games a piece. They were ably supported by Advait Mudras. For the losing finalists, Wesley won both his matches. Akshan Lawande and Tanay Kaisare were the other members of the winning team. Lenny Do Rosario, Jayz Gomes, Jaedan Gomes, Shivani Dhamapurkar and Anand Naik were the other members of the Runners up squad. Semi Finals prizes were awarded to Nirman Construction Company (Noel Noronha, Sanisha Shetye, Amogh Bawachikar, Omar Baig and Arun Naik) and Dhume Electricals (Kewal Tamhankar, Eleanor do Rosario, Ashwin Kunkolienker, Upendra Talavdekar, Sachin Soares and Sachi Kerkar). Arya Divekar, Sachi Kerkar, Govind Khandeparkar and Priyam Redkar emerged promising players of the tournament. Mr. Sandip Bhandare (President, GCCI), Mr. R. S. Kamat (Director General, GCCI), Mr. Amey Lawande (Executive member, Goa TT Association), and Panjim TT Club committee members Noel Noronha, Selvyn Godinho, Chetan Kavlekar, Sandeep Heble and Gaurang Bhangui graced the closing function.
