GOA GETS GOING ON REGIONAL CANCER CENTRE

Panaji (Goa): Goa has signed memorandum of understanding with the union health ministry over setting up of Regional Cancer Centre. This would be the first ever facility in entire Konkan region.

“The facility would be set up in the premises of Goa Medical College and Hospital. The infrastructure for the project would be set up within six months,” said State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.

The MoU between the union government and centre was signed today in the national capital which will pave way for the funding for the regional cancer centre, which would be the only facility in Goa and Konkan region, he said.

Rane said that the union government has already sanctioned Rs 45 crore for the project, the infrastructure for which would be created by Goa Infrastructure Development Corporation in the premises of Goa Medical College and Hospital near here.

He said the specialized staff would be posted at the centre.

Goa government has constituted three member team comprising of State health secretary and Dean of Goa medical college and hospital which will oversee the implementation of this project.
