Panaji (Goa): After training hundreds of fire personnel in Disaster Response Training in Urban Search, Rescue and Medical First Aid Responders Skills, the Goa Fire & Emergency Services conducted rigorous training of as many as 30 fire personnel of state disaster response and fire service of Andhra Pradesh.
Eight station fire officers, one leading fireman and 21 firemen underwent three week-long training, ending last month at the Goa Fire Force Training Centre, which has been recognised as a regional training centre by the Union government.
Besides Andhra Pradesh, three other states Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand have also availed the training in various programs at this centre on recommendations of Director General (Fire Services), Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi.
Goa Centre has also trained several policemen, home guards and civil defence components of State Disaster Response Force. The second batch of such trainees will start in January 2018, Director of Goa Fire & Emergency Services Ashok Menon said.
At the farewell ceremony, Menon congratulated the trainees for the successful completion of the training while also urging them to percolate the skills to other staff of State Disaster Response Force and Fire Service.
The Goa fire force has been lauded for its best response in fire and emergency situation. It is also set to become the first department in the country to recruit women firefighters, as the proposal is seriously being considered by the state government.
