Goa’s Filipe Barbosa emerged with a creditable bronze medal finish in Men’s singles 55+ age group at the 42nd Indian Masters ( Veteran) National Badminton Championships 2017-18 which concluded on February 25 at Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. In the pre quarter finals, Felipe registered a commanding 21-14, 21-14 win over Puran Chandra Tewari (Haryana). In the quarters, he was stretched by Chhattisgarh’s Bhupendra Sao before prevailing to a 17-21, 21-19, 21-9 win. In the semis, he went down to the top seed Harjit Singh 21-16, 21-7. In Men’s singles 70+ category, Goa’s Dr Satish Kudchadkar reached the quarters, where he gave a tough fight to eventual silver medal winner Suhel Singh Ghai of Maharashtra, seeded 3. He lost 21-12, 22-20. Former Goa State champion Ashutosh Pednekar who now represents Maharashtra also made his way to the podium, emerging with two bronze medals in Men’s 45+ Doubles and 45+ Mixed Doubles categories.
