GOA: GOLD SMUGGLING ATTEMPT FOILED AT GOA AIRPORT

Vasco (Goa) An international passenger who had arrived from the middle east country was detained when he was found trying to smuggle gold worth Rs 33 lakh in the country.

Customs spokesman said that the seizure was made during wee hours today when an international passenger was found to be carrying 1240 gms of gold worth Rs 33 lakh.

He was carrying the contraband in the “stroller bag metal frame.”

The spokesman said that the passenger had arrived from Jeddah via Muscat on Oman Air flight and was trying to hoodwink the Custom sleuths on the airport.

The sleuths checked his bag upon suspicion and found five bars of high density gold in it, which were later seized under the provisions of Customs Act, 1962.
