Panaji (Goa) Goa government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) which would be monitored by a retired high court judge to investigate the matka gambling activity in the State.

Bombay High Court at Goa had ordered the constitution of SIT to investigate into matka gambling in response to the petition filed by social activist Kashinath Shetye.

State Under Secretary (Home) Neetal Amonkar in an order issued today has notified the SIT which would be monitored by retired High Court Judge A P Lawande.

Superintendent of Police Boussette Silva would be heading this team which comprises of Police Inspector Krishna Sinari and Sub Inspectors – Akshay Gaonkar and Vaman Naik.

The state government has said that the SIT would give a monthly report of the investigation conducted by it in the `matka’ gambling activity reported to be happening in Goa.

In a public interest litigation filed by Shetye before the High Court earlier this year, he had alleged rampant matka gambling activities in the state. He also alleged a nexus between police and matka operators, as well as the involvement of politicians.
