State Government today announced that the ten best performing village panchayats in handling garbage menace will be rewarded with Rs five lakh incentive every year.
Government has extended Goa Panchayats (Grants to Tackle Garbage Menace) Scheme till 2023, under which Rs two lakhs are provided as grants to the village panchayats towards garbage collection, segregation and disposal.
Under the scheme, Panchayats in the coastal belt and those with Tourism potential having tourism importance are eligible for additional financial assistance of Rs. Five lakhs each per annum in addition to the allotted fund. Also those located in the vicinity of Airport will be given additional financial assistance of Rs. Seven lakhs for proper disposal of garbage.
The sub-urban Panchayats that are nearby and located on the boundary of four major cities Mapusa, Panaji, Margao, Ponda, that too are provided additional grant of Rs five lakhs per annum.
