GOA GOVT DRAFTS START UP POLICY, AIMS 5,000 JOBS IN FIVE YEARS

Panaji (Goa): With an aim of putting Goa on the global startup ecosystem map by 2025, the State Government has drafted a ‘Goa Startup Policy’ with a focus on promoting the IT startups and to create nearly 5000 new jobs in the IT sector over next five years.

The draft policy, which will be implemented as a part of the Goa IT Investment Policy 2015, has been placed before Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for approval.

“The draft policy is ready and the same is submitted to Chief Minister for approval. The policy is going to be part of IT Policy,” IT Minister Rohan Khaunte said.

He said that in lines with the Union Government’s imitative, Goa, too wants to promote the concept of IT anywhere.

The draft includes the setting up of state-of-the art innovation and incubation centres across the state over the next few years.

The State government has made a budgetary provision of Rs 169 crores for IT sector including provision of Rs 15 crores for startups.

Further, in order to promote startups in the IT sector, government proposes to establish a startup promotion board during the current financial year.
