PANAJI (GOA): A division bench of the Bombay High Court at Goa comprising of Justice G.S Patel and Justice Nutan Sardessai today while hearing a petition filed by Adv. Aires Rodrigues came down heavily on the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for having allowed BJP National President Amit Shah’s illegal and unlawful public meeting at Goa’s Dabolim Airport on July 1, 2017.
Seeking to know why this preferential treatment was accorded to Amit Shah and as to whether he was above the law, the Court said that it would pass appropriate orders on August 21 while observing that there should never ever be such breaching of the law at the airport.
Questioning the AAI, whether a privilege to hold such a function at the Dabolim airport was earlier ever given to anyone else, Justice Patel sought to know whether he would be allowed to hold his son’s birthday party at the airport.
Refusing to accept the submission made by the AAI that Amit Shah’s meeting was spontaneous, the Court questioned as how there was a podium, sofas, red carpet and sound system at the venue if that meeting was not a pre-planned one.
Adv. Aires Rodrigues, in his petition, has sought directions to ensure that the rule of law is upheld by holding an inquiry for fixing the responsibility and taking action in accordance with law against the organisers and those responsible for that illegal public meeting held in total violation of law.
