The Governor of Goa and Chancellor, Goa University Mridula Sinha has conceived a unique project on promoting constitutional awareness across the state coinciding with the week preceding the 69th Republic Day.
Titled as ‘We and the Constitution’ (Samvidhan aur hum), the project will see a week-long event spread across the districts, talukas, Panchayats, schools and colleges consisting of popular lectures on the importance of the Constitution by experts, constitutional literacy activities by law students, debates, quizzes and audio visual and print campaign focusing on the importance of the Constitution for common man.
The project will be launched on January 19 at Goa University and after a week of state wide activities will culminate on January 25. Interestingly, the entire conduct of the program will be documented and shared with other states and union territories as a model for the rest of the country.
A senior official said that the project seeks to recognize the importance of the Constitution as the guiding spirit of India’s democracy, safeguard of the rights of common people and as guiding the citizens about their duties. It also seeks to sensitize the common man on what the Constitution means for the day-to-day lives of the people and make the vast population of India, especially the youth feel proud of being citizens of largest democracy of the world.
The project is being jointly coordinated by Directorate of Higher Education, Directorate of Education, Directorate of Panchayats, Directorate of Municipal Administration, Department of Information and Publicity, Law Department, Department of Political Science, Goa University, V M Salgaonkar College of Law, Miramar and Kare College of Law, Margao, in collaboration with key agencies of the State Government.
