Come April, the Goa Public Service Guarantee Act will come into force across all government departments that would facilitate time bound service to citizens. Addressing a gathering of party councillors and Zilla Panchayat members as a part of preparations for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said the Act will maintain transparency and deliver timely service to the people.
“There are many government departments which have not been performing up to the mark… This Act will bring everything in place by ensuring transparency and timely service to the people,” he said.
The CM had last year announced to start full implementation of the Act from January 2018. As of now, aeound 497 public services of 40 departments have come under the ambit of the Act, which was actually introduced in 2013 but has been going through a slow implementation.
The Department of Public Grievances notified that various public services like issuance of certificates, permissions, disbursement of claims and compensations, no objections certificates etc should be provided in a time bound manner.
Revenue department is reportedly the first to go online considering that major e-services like mutation, partition and giving various certificates are already in place with minister Rohan Khaunte and District collectors available for citizens through official email. Earlier last month, the Directorate of Transport took various services online in a bid to go digital and curb long queues at RTO counters for procuring related forms. As many as 61 forms are now available on the department’s website www.goatransport.Govt.In can be downloaded free of cost unlike at the counters where nominal fees are charged.
