Over 100 Mahila Congress members and supporters held a morcha outside the police headquarters demanding action against the police sub inspector, accused of abeting suicide of a lady constable.

The mahila wing of the Congress party has also expressed its discontent with mere transfer of PSI Gautam Shetkar despite increasing demand from different sections to take stricter action against him.

The protest comes after the department failed to suspend the PSI. He has been transferred from Verna police station to GRP camp.

The wing had on February 12 given a deadline of 7 days to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, also the Home Minister, to suspend and arrest PSI Shetkar for the offense. However CM then fell ill and was later shifted to Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai. He returned Goa only on Friday even as his treatment for pancreatitis is underway. With over 10 days now and no action to the party wing’s ultimatum, the members came on the streets to demand justice for the constable today.

The lady constable, a new recruit in the department had committed suicide earlier this month by consuming ratol. The victim’s family besides several groups of people have demanded suspension and arrest of the PSI.
