Bambolim (Goa): After a delay of almost a year, Goa government is readying to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Union Health ministry to set up Regional Cancer Centre at state run Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), near here.
State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that the proposal for setting up Regional Cancer Centre at GMCH was pending for last one year. “We have located the file and State Health Secretary will be signing MoU with the centre over this project in next eight to ten days,” he added.
Goa Infrastructure Development Corporation (GIDC) will be putting up infrastructure required for this Rs 45-crore project, he said.
“Necessary instructions have been given to the state bureaucracy. This will be one of the flagship projects of Goa government,” the minister said.
Rane stated that Cancer has become a very common disease in the state of Goa and has even overtaken the cases of cardiology.
“I will go all out to ensure that the Goa medical College has its own regional Cancer Center, and will work under the guidance of the Chief Minister to ensure the MoU for the regional cancer center is signed at the earliest,” he said.
