Panaji (Goa) The government has asked the State police to crack down on the sale of narcotics in the North district coast after two Tamil Nadu based youths died allegedly due to drug overdose on Sunday.
Abdul Naim and Pravin Surendra, both from Tamil Nadu, who were part of the group which had arrived in the State for holiday died in a private hospital in Anjuna, a senior police official said.
The doctors have suspected that their cause of death could be drug overdose, which can be confirmed through the postmortem that is scheduled to be conducted today (Monday).
Police said that the both the deceased had left the beach party at Vagator in North Goa on Saturday night and returned back only to be felt uneasy.
They were rushed to the hospital where the doctor declared them dead.
State Water Resources department minister Vinod Palyekar, in whose constituency Vagator beach is situated, said that he has directed Superintendent of Police (North) Chandan Chowdhary to crack down on the drug trade in the coastal belt.
“I have been raising voice against availability of drugs in the North coast of the State from the day I was elected,” Palyekar said adding that a separate policy to regulate outdoor night parties should be formed which will discourage this trade.
