CHANDOR (GOA): Wesley Do Rosario and Prutha Parrikar won the Men’s and Women’s singles titles respectively, at the 2nd Naguesh and Sushila Verenker Memorial All Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, organised by Chandor Club under the aegis of Goa Table Tennis Association, at Chandor Club Complex, Chandor.
In the finals held on Sunday, Wesley thumped to a resounding 4-0 (11-8, 11-7, 12-10, 11-9) win over Dheeraj Rai in the Men’s finals. Earlier, Wesley had to ward off the challenge of Mandar Joshi before winning 3-1 (11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8) to pocket the Junior Boys title. Prutha who had to face defeat in the Junior Girls event, losing 3-1 (11-7, 6-11, 11-9, 11-9) to Sanisha Shetye, came back strongly to win Ladies singles finals. She beat Mallika Gogoi 3-2 (11-8, 8-11, 12-10, 5-11, 11-7) in a close match. Meanwhile, Shantesh Mhapsekar beat Aarav Aiyar 3-0 (12-10, 11-8, 11-4) to win the Cadet Boys finals. After winning silver at All India level, Shantesh who is now India number 2 in Cadets, carried forward the momentum to win the Sub-junior Boys title with a 3-1 (6-11, 11-1, 11-5, 11-9) win over Nagesh Verenker. Aaron Farias beat Akshan Lawande 3-0 (11-7, 11-5, 11-7) to win the Mini Cadet Boys while the Mini Cadets Girls title was won by Leoma Fernandes who beat Sunidhi Savaikar 3-0 (11-5,13-11,11-6). Sneha Mesta beat Simran Kubal 3-0 (13-11, 11-8, 11-6) to win the Cadet Girls title. The Sub-junior Girls finals was won by Taniya Patil who beat Aditi Chodankar 3-1 (9-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-9). Galya Fernandes and Trisha Verlekar emerged as promising players of the tournament.
