Arambol  (Goa)

In what seemed like a scene from a movie, a group of locals, supposedly drug peddlers, got into a major brawl with narcotics raiding team at the coastal village of Arambol this evening.

The clash even led an officer opening fire in the air in self defense.

According to the police, a team of Narcotics Control Bureau (Goa Unit) had planned to lay a trap in a beach shack at Arambol to crack down on an alleged drug activity. The team was accompanied by plain-clothed police personnel from Mapusa and Pernem. “The NCB had sought manpower from Goa police to raid the premises.  However, when the team reached the shack, some men who were supposedly drug traffickers began assaulting the NCB officer,” said a police source.

The NCB team also hit back but when the situation went out of hand, NCB SP Jitendra Ranjan fired in the air.

“The open fire was in self defense. Nobody was hurt,” said an officer.

While Pernem police are yet to receive an official complaint from the NCB on the attack, three persons were defined for questioning.
