Dr. Chakraborty has received many honours and awards among them the prominent ones are National Mineral Award -2006 of the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, CSIR Technology Award in Engineering Technology, Silver Medal in Underwater Acoustics by Acoustical Foundation, Marie Curie Fellowship, Visiting Scientist at Alfred Wegener Institute, Bremerhaven, CSIR Young Scientist Award. Dr. Chakraborty is a Chief Editor of the Journal Acoustical Society of India (JASI). He is a member of the International Quite Ocean Experiment Program of the SCOR (Scientific Committee of the Ocean Research) where he is a Co-Chair of the Working Group: Acoustic Measurement of Ocean Biodiversity Hotspots. 
Dr. Chakraborty has over thirty-four years of research experience in Underwater Acoustics, Acoustic Signal & Image Processing, Artificial Neural Network, Multifractals related to seafloor classification and characterization using Multi-beam Sonar. His research interest also include passive acoustic monitoring and aquatic animal sound recording and their analyses. 
He has 97 research publications in various journals of national and international repute. He has several Patents in his credit & guided many students for their PhD degrees.
