Panaji (Goa) The current inter-state row between Goa and Karnataka over Mhadei river water diversion is result of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s letter to BJP  Karnataka chief B S Yedyurappa, Congress party charged.

“Whatever issue is happening at present is due to the letter by Parrikar to Yedyurappa. If he (Parrikar) had not to write letter, the situation would have been under control,” former chief minister and Congress MLA Ravi Naik told press conference.

Parrikar had on December 20, last month, wrote to Yedyurappa stating on “humanitarian” ground he has agreed for bilateral discussion on the issue of release of “reasonable and justified” quantum of water for drinking purpose to Karnataka.

Chief Minister, had, however, in his letter made Government stand clear that “State interest will not be compromised and their opposition continues to the issues pending before the Mhadie Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT)”.
