Panaji (Goa) The ruckus was witnessed on the footpath of Panaji on the Mandovi River front when gang of CCP workers descended to remove the stalls which were installed as a part of Ashtami Ferry.
The vendors complained that they had already paid fees to the CCP which had even given the formal receipts. They questioned why the civic body was taking action against them after accepting the fee and giving proper permission.
“We have been preparing for last 15 days for this ferry. Despite giving permission, the CCP has now started demolishing the stalls,” the vendors said as the noisy situation prevailed on the footpath.
CCP Commissioner Dipak Desai who initiated the action this morning wrote to North Goa collector claiming that the stalls were installed on footpath and also in the parking lots.
“It is noticed that there are many temporary erection of furniture and other stalls at promenade at campal for the purpose of ferry without valid permission from corportion of city of panaji,” Desai said in his letter to the Collector.
“It is also encroached on the areas reserved for parking of election vehicles. Petition is also filed in the high court by one of the citizen against the erection of stalls on footpath,” he said.
“It is decided to remove or demolish all such structures, stalls which are on footpath, promenade, today on 16th August. All the required arrangements have been done,” the Commissioner added.
