Calangute (Goa): The Calangute police resorted to an innovative exercise in a bid to create awareness on traffic rules, on the eve of Christmas.
A team led by PI Jivba Dalvi conducted a surprise educationary drive along this tourist popular stretch to inform the public to follow traffic rules.
Dalvi informed that the move was to educate people about the traffic rules and safety.
The staff stopped the traffic violators and distributed pamphlets about traffic safety. The interesting part was that a police staff dressed up as Santa Claus gave chocolates to the public and informed them to follow rules and politely warned that they will be fined next time if found violating the rules.
Police officers also took keen interest in telling the children of violators to inform about the safety rules to their parents.
Around 80 percent two wheeler riders were found to be keeping the helmets instead of wearing. They were requested to wear it and let go thereafter. PI Jivba Dalvi informed the two wheeler riders to wear the helmet not in the fear of law but for their own safety.
Almost 500 vehicle riders and drivers were distributed pamphlets and given the chocolates. The educatory drive went on for more than two hours.
“It is one of a kind initiative as police wanted to impart about the safety rules without spoiling the festive and party mood of the public. Many locals and residents appreciated the initiative of the Calangute police,” he said.
