Porvorim (Goa) Health Minister Vishwajit Rane today told the House that the new South district hospital in Margao town would be completed in May 2018.
“We all want new hospital to get ready. It is proposed somewhere in May 2018 but till then we are ensuring that you have additional doctors at the existing facility,” Rane told State Legislative Assembly today during the Question Hour.
He was responding to a question by Congress legislator Digambar Kamat on lack of facilities at existing District hospital.
Admitting that there is a shortage of staff and equipments at the district hospital, the minister said that he has already initiated exercise to pull out additional doctors from various other government facilities and post them at the district hospital in Margao.
He said that the state government is ensuring that referral from district hospital to Goa Medical College and hospital is minimal. “We don’t want people to move from the district hospital and dumped in Goa Medical College,” Rane said.
Responding to a question on dirty bedsheets in district hospital, Rane said the State government is working on having a centralized laundry for all the government run hospitals.
“There will a centralized laundry. We will be regularly sending all the bedsheets to the centralized laundry. We are having it so that it can be on par with any other laundry,” he said.
“Not only the bedsheets but the clothes that be wore by the patients will be clean,” he said.
