Porvorim (Goa) Goa legislative assembly was told today that the ban on sale of liquor is expected to force state losses of Rs 700 lakh in its revenue collection.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in a written reply tabled on the House has said that the expected loss on non collection towards renewal of licence fees is estimated at Rs 200 lakhs, while on VAT collected on retail sale of liquor for consumption is expected to be Rs 500 lakhs.

Parrikar said at this stage, the details of revenue loss to individual licences and their support staff is not readily available.

The chief minister was responding to a question tabled by leader of opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar seeking details of the effects of ban on sale of liquor on all National and State highways in the State.

Parrikar said pursuant to the directions of the Supreme Court of India vide judgment dated December 15, 2016 , total 2443 licences for retail sale of liquor have not been renewed.
