Panaji (GOA) Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to meet Union Minister for Shipping Nitin Gadkari on August 5 to enlightened him with the very fact how Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), Adani Murmugao Port Terminal Private Ltd and South West Port Ltd are involved in causing pollution in the entire Vasco town.
“I will take up the issue with the Shippin Minister personally,” Parrikar told the State Legislative Assmbly.
“At any cost, State is not going to allow any kind of expansion or enhancement in coal handling by MPT unless the pollution in the area is brought under control,” Chief Minister assured.
Parrikar said that Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has already initiated prosecution process against MPT and the two companies handling coal at the berths for exceeding the pollution limit.
Chief Minister said that the Source Apportionment Study proposed by the GSPCB through IIT Bombay will be conducted over a period of 12 months and the project will be completed within 18 months from the date of start of the work.
“The cost of the proposal that is Rs 94 lakhs will be borne by MPT,” he said replying to a question raised by BJP MLA Carlos Almeida.
