Panaji (Goa) Shiv Sena has strongly condemns the move by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to allow the water from River Mahadayi to be diverted by Karnataka government claiming it to be “the move which is clearly chalked out for the sake of winning upcoming elections”.
This is what Sena’s Goa spokesman Rakhi Prabhudessai Naik has said in a statement issued here:
Parrikar should not have agreed to sell the interest of Goa to anoint his party’s victory in Karnataka during upcoming polls.
It is pertinent to note that by softening its stand on Mahadayi issue, Parrikar has made the two-decade-old fight by Goans to save the river from being dammed by Karnataka absolutely redundant. He has made mockery of the Goan people who had been highly respecting him for his statesmanship.
Sena has always proved through their actsthat the interest of the state is much above the party politics. Our stand in the State of Maharashtra against our own government on several issues indicates how we have set an example for others to emulate.
Parrikar should not forget that he is Goan first, and then a BJP leader. His party cannot sacrifice the ecology and environment of Goa just to win an election.
BJP President Amit Shah has no right to intervene in the affairs of Goa and Goans. We would welcome him as a guest during election campaigning and after that he should let Goans rule the state and not dictate his terms to the chief minister.
We are also shocked with the silence of Goa Forward Party over the issue. Sena expects Vijai Sardesai not to bend down to the greed of power at the cost of Goans.
Goa Forward Party which has been chanting ‘Goenkarponn’ in each of their sentences has now forgotten its own narrative, just to be further ensconce its position in Parrikar led government.
The activists have already begun protesting against the move. Sena is with the activists and would join hands with them to make sure that Parrikar and BJP does not surrender themselves to the powers in Delhi ruining the future of Goa.
