Vasco (Goa)  Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai said that the State is going through ‘emergency like situation’ due to the impending troubles arising from implementation of Supreme Court order on the mining.

The SC has stopped extraction of fresh iron ore from March 15 onwards pushing the industry into crisis.

“These are transitional period and these are challenging times. The stoppage of mining is going to affect several people. There will be huge social impact due to this,” Sardesai, who is also a member of State Cabinet Advisory Committee, told reporters in Vasco today.

The minister said that the State government is not responsible for the current situation on the mining industry. “It is the supreme court that has done it.

There was a ban on highway bars, it was done by the supreme court,” he said referring to the verdict banning sale of liquor along the highways.

“Now there is decision on mining. One pillar of democracy decides to exert its influence and one whole thing gets paralysis. We are on the verge of emergency situation,” Sardesai said.

The minister said that Goa is in the situation where 12,000 people working as truck drivers are going to be out of job from march 15, one and half lakh people look at retrenchment staring at their face.

“We are facing an issue of social turmoil. We are facing emergency like situation in Goa,” he said.

indirectly referring to the statements made by coalition partner members suggesting mid-term polls,  Sardesai said that “at this time it is expected that all the parties which are in ruling coalition should be behave responsibly.”

“We have the chief minister who is in the hospital. We also have a responsibility that he does not get stressed out there,” he said.

Talking to reporters, Sardesai said that the State government is not ‘unsafe.’

“Government is bound by common minimum program. The government is not unsafe,” he said responding to a question on statements by alliance partners including MGP which has said that they are in the State government till Parrikar is the chief minister.

Sardesai said that Goa Forward party has done lot of sacrifice to form this government and has even joined hands with the parties against whom State Legislative Assemblyl 2017 election was fought.

The minister ruled out the possibility of mid-term polls stating that there is no such possibility. “But if there are polls, we are not afraid to fight the elections, if they are held,” he added.
