The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) handed over memorandum to the Dy. collector of Ponda, Bicholim, Mapusa, Vasco and collector of North Goa appealing them to stop malpractices occurring during ‘Valentine’s Day’.  An appeal has been done to appoint special police squads to stop malpractices on the occasion of ‘Valentine’s Day’, increase police patrol in the college premises and taking action on speeding drivers.

Memorandum further says that, western tradition of celebrating the ‘Valentine Day’ on 14th February in India is being established since last few years. With a view to gain some business, this distorted version of love is being made popular among youth and as a result, the young generation is drawn towards sensuality and immorality. Under the name of Valentine’s Day with a view to express obscene love, teasing and violent acts concerning young girls through one sided love have been reported. So also there is rise in the malpractices like consuming intoxicating drinks, drugs, smoking, etc. during the dinner parties organised on this day. Immense sale of contraceptives shows the rise in immoral relationships. Lot of accidents takes place on this day due to speedy driving undertaken to impress girl-companions.

HJS has submitted a memorandum to various school managements in the taluka appealing them to celebrate the ‘Valentine’s Day’ as ‘Parents’ Day’. It is also stated in the memorandum that, through this gesture of celebrating ‘Parents’ Day’ publicly, young people show more respect and love towards their parents.
