In what could spell trouble for all those identified in the long forgotten confidential report into the series of escapes from Apna Ghar and links of staff and inmates with criminals, the state government is set to reconsider the findings and recommendations.
Minister for Department of Women & Child Development Vishwajit Rane has called for the report, which was submitted to the government way back in 2012, over a month after the expose. “I will most probably accept the report and start implementing the guidelines,” he said.
The minister had called for the report from the department a week ago following a fresh spate of escapes of children.
The report, which was prepared by gazetted officer Levinson Martins, had ascertained that some Apna Ghar staffers were hand in gloves with criminals by allowing smuggling of children to the latter for carrying out illegal activities. Six caretakers were indicted in the report of whom one was also arrested. The report had recommendations a series of correctional measures including improving infrastructural facilities.
Meanwhile, the government will inaugurate the renovated institutional complex at Apna Ghar on Monday.
