Valpoi (Goa) Valpoi police have filed charge-sheet against against journalist-cum-businessman Uday Sawant and his accomplice in the theft case reported in the year 2015.

They were charge-sheeted for stealing basalt stone powder way back in the year 2015 near Valpoi.

The charge-sheet was filed against Uday Sawant and his accomplice Premnath Gaonkar before Judicial Magistrate First Class, Valpoi under section 379 read with 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“One of the accused Uday Sawant is a part time journalist with few publications besides he being a businessman. The charge-sheet is filed before JMFC Valpoi today,” Valpoi Police Inspector Shivram Vaingankar told reporters today.

They have been charged for stealing crushed basalt stone powder worth Rs five lakh using a truck and a JCB machine in November, 2015. The accused allegedly stole the powder from a deserted quarry owned by Kunal Desai, who had filed formal complaint with the police.
