VASCO (GOA): The famous Saptah of Vasco is being celebrated today. This is the 118th year of Saptah which started back in 1899 when the plague epidemic affected the port town, and medical science failed to control it.
The blessings in the form of a coconut was brought to Vasco and installed in the house of Joshi family for worship after which the epidemic disappeared.
Saptah is a chain of Bhajans which are sung for 24 hours continuously. The festival starts today from 12.30 pm onwards by installing a coconut at the lotus feet of lord Damodar and requesting god to protect the town and its people.
At night seven communities from Vasco come with their floats turn by turn to Damodar temple. Next day the Saptah ends with “Kala “.
